Cheryl started her musical career as a flautist. Having studied Music & Music Technology at Keele University she specialised in performance, featuring the Martinu Sonata, Bach Sonata in E minor and Ian Clarke Hypnosis in her final recital. She has continued to perform and learn taking part in masterclasses with Philippa Davies, Ian Clarke and Wissam Boustany. She was a member of the LPO Open Ear Orchestra performing at the Royal Festival Hall, London. As a percussionist specialising in Brazilian percussion she also loves to share the wide breadth of Brazilian music that exists for flute with students - in particular, choro.
Cheryl has a friendly, relaxed approach to flute lessons, taking a students musical preferences into account from pop to latin, classical to jazz. Exams can be taken, but certainly aren't an essential part of learning. Cheryl is always keen to install a creative confidence in her students and whilst ensuring correct technical skills, aims to ensure students learn in a safe, supportive environment.
Individual lessons are available for £17 for 30 mins or £25 for an hour.
During Covid-19 social distancing restrictions and lockdown, lessons are now taking place online until further notice using Zoom, Skype or FaceTime. For more information, please get in touch.
"For me, the flute is really the sound of humanity, the sound of man flowing, completely free from his body almost without an intermediary"
